photo gallery update: postcards from the last place on earth

This time we have literally gone to the end of the earth to bring a fresh new series of adventure photos to the mariposaHD photo gallery. After shooting our first three HD videos in Argentina and episodes 4-6 in Uruguay, the mariposaHD team has embarked on a journey around the world to bring you more beautiful images in perfect High Definition clarity. And no journey around the world would be complete without a visit to the most isolated place on planet earth.

The island of Rapa Nui (which is called Easter Island in English and Isla de Pascua in Spanish because the first Europeans found the place on Easter Sunday) was the last habitable land mass on earth to be permanently inhabited by humans. The island, which today is part of Chile, lies about 3,600 km from the coast of South America. Living far away from their nearest neighbors, the early inhabitants had plenty of time on their hands to construct the iconic stone heads for which the island is famous.

photo gallery update: bikini beach fashion show

While episode 01.06 contained the last of the HD footage from our recent visit to Punta del Este, Uruguay, we did actually attend another beach fashion show that didn't make it into any of our recent videos. Unfortunately, the beach was really overcast that day and because of the lousy lighting conditions we wound up using other footage for our episodes from Punta. However, the digital photos from the show turned out okay despite the flat lighting. So, enjoy one last reprise from our visit to punta: a new bikini beach photo album in the mariposa style folder of our online photo gallery.

Despite the less-than-ideal weather, this 'fashion parade' turned out to be really hot. The catwalk was located right in the heart of bikini beach and the show featured some of our favorite mariposa girls, such as rocio, eva, tammy, antonela, and many more.

The crowd on the beach seemed to really enjoy the show. Perhaps you will too!

Our latest video, episode 01.06 :: we got everything is now available for download from our episodes page in the usual 720p and 1080p HD formats and in mp4 for iPod with Video.

It was felix carvalho, a young man wise beyond his years, who once remarked, "we got everything". Indeed, in this episode we truly have got it all: beautiful models, glamorous fashion shows, an exclusive polo match, and the biggest DJ in the world -- all in perfect High Definition clarity.

In this final chapter of our three videos from Punta del Este, Uruguay we spend some time with dolores behind the red velvet rope outside a trendy beach nightclub. There, we learn something about our visit to Punta: some people have "got it", and some people have "got everything!".

We hope you enjoy watching the show as much as we enjoy making it. And please remember to continue seeding after your BitTorrent transfer completes so that the next viewer can download these big files just as speedy as you.

We have waited a long time to release these new photos. This girl is going to make it really big. We will not be surprised at all when some day soon we see her strolling down the catwalk at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show or on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

You may recognize antonela, our newest mariposa girl, from the brief "coming soon :: episode 01.06" clip at the end of episode 01.05 or from the scorching tendencia beach fashion show in episode 01.04. antonela will be the featured mariposa girl in the next episode of mariposaHD. So you can take this as a little hint that the release of episode 01.06 may be coming right around the corner. Until then, please enjoy antonela's new photo album in our online photo gallery.

We only had a brief few minutes to shoot with antonela as she finished a polo-themed fashion show on bikini beach, near punta del este, Uruguay. We got lucky and caught a few moments of perfect afternoon sunlight. Needless to say, antonela has the look that will take her as far as she's willing to go. We have not seen the last of her!

eliana ramos 1988-2007

Some very tragic news made the headlines this week in Buenos Aires. Uruguayan model Eliana Ramos, 18, was found dead on Tuesday of an apparent heart attack.

Sadly, this tragedy has all the makings of a story that sensationalist journalism will stick to. Just six months earlier, her older sister Luisel, 22, died as she stepped off the catwalk of a fashion show in Montevideo. Additionally, the local press has been whipped into an anorexia frenzy recently after the death of Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston last November and the controversy surrounding Madrid Fashion Week's decision to bar underweight models. While no official medical report has been released yet, the local press has speculated that an eating disorder may have contributed to Elle's early demise.

While the mariposaHD team never actually knew Elle, our cameras did capture her smiles at several recent local fashion shows. We wish to offer our condolences to her family and friends for this tragic loss. But as usual, rather than commenting extensively on this sad story, we prefer to let our images do the talking. new mariposa girl: ale

ale is a 24-year-old model from Buenos Aires that we met at a casting a few months ago. She said she was interested in doing some photos together so we did a quick test shoot at our studio in Las Cañitas.

We think her photos turned out pretty snappy so we're happy to bring you our first new mariposa girl of the new year: here is ale in her new photo album.

We have been trying to get a hold of ale to do some more work together (possibly film something for an upcoming episode) but like most models from Argentina she is across the river working in Punta del Este for the month of January. Hopefully we'll see more of her soon.

Now that we have the holidays and the beginning of (South American) summer out of the way we'll start updating things around here a little more often again. We have some more new photos coming out and a new HD episode for release soon. Stay tuned and thanks for watching mariposaHD!

photo gallery update: happy holidays from romi!

It's the week before Christmas and one of the nice things about this time of year in Buenos Aires is seeing many old friends of mariposaHD who are passing through town on their way to be with family or friends for the holidays.

One such old friend is no stranger to fans of this web site: the lovely romina is one of the original mariposa girls and continues to be one of our most popular models. romina has been doing some modeling work in Paraguay and is passing through Buenos Aires for a few days while on her way back to her hometown of Cordoba for the holidays.

With all this talent in town the mariposaHD team finds it a bit difficult to take a break for the holidays. So, earlier this week tamir and dominic whipped out the trusty Sony HVR-Z1U and Canon EOS 20D and took romina down to a pair of our favorite urban locations in Palermo and Las Cañitas to snap some test shots for an upcoming photography campaign.

So, direct from romina (and all of us here at mariposaHD) we pass along a bit of holiday cheer and happily present not one but TWO beautiful new photo galleries from palermo and las cañitas (along with a few backstage making of palermo and making of las cañitas shots).

Yes, for those of you who follow the Gregorian calendar, it has officially been one Gregorian year since Motamorfosis Productions publicly launched our first episode of mariposaHD. So, happy birthday mariposaHD!

Of course, around here we strictly adhere to the Mayan calendar. The positive energy associated with this is one of the secrets to the success of mariposaHD.

For us, it has been 12 full moons, many energetic days, and one "out of time day" since we launched our first episode of mariposaHD. On December 7, 2005 we became the world's first original HDTV show to be distributed on the Internet (according to any calendar).

In our first Gregorian year of "netcasting", thousands of people from all over the earth downloaded episodes of mariposaHD. From places we can easily count, viewers downloaded 92,761 episodes of mariposaHD using the BitTorrent protocol. An additional 39,952 episodes of our iPod version were downloaded directly from Apple's iTunes music store. Many thousands more downloaded episodes directly from bittorrent.com, the ed2k/eMule P2P network, or from USENET news feeds (which we can't count so easily). We have also welcomed more than half a million unique visitors to the mariposaHD.tv web site this year.

From our BitTorrent tracker alone we tracked more than 84 TERABYTES of data transfers this year. This project must stand as one of the most stunning endorsements of using Peer-to-Peer technology to transfer large data files around the world.

Many thousands of people had their first ever experience seeing High-definition video by watching mariposaHD (as HDTV is not yet broadcast in most parts of the world). mariposaHD has also been seen in trade shows, expositions, and HDTV demonstrations in several countries. This project is also a stunning endorsement of the Creative Commons licensing model and the idea of free and open digital exchange of artistic work.

For 365 sunrises now the mariposaHD team has brought you free HD videos and a huge online high definition photo gallery. You've enjoyed the beauty, style, adventure, great music, and gorgeous mariposa girls that define mariposaHD. We send little bits and bits of pleasure to your perceptions (using the latest technology out there).

But, there is more yet to come! We are going to continue to surprise you in the coming year. We have been traveling around the world to bring you more of the first free HDTV show for the Internet. Remember, we're always on, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and available from anywhere in the world. It's free and legal to download, watch, keep, copy, and share; always and forever. As winter approaches in many places around the world, things are just warming up down here! December is the beginning of summer in Argentina and the mariposaHD team is assembling once again to bring you even more beauty, style, and adventure from "The Deep South".

We have a long list of new talent to introduce here on mariposaHD and we begin today with a very beautiful new addition to our team of mariposa girls. Please welcome lau and enjoy her new album in our online photo gallery.

lau is a girl we have known for some time now and from the moment we first met her it was obvious that she would be a mariposa girl someday. She is 20 years old, from the town of Vincente Lopez (which is a suburb just north of Buenos Aires), and is relatively new to the world of modeling.

Like many mariposa girls before her, we are certain that lau will become a huge success in modeling after taking her first baby steps with us.

The mariposaHD team continues to travel our separate ways until we start filming our second season in January. Our primary photographer mike is currently visiting Oregon, U.S. and sent in a few samples from his brand new Canon EOS 5D.

The northwest United States is known as a photographer's paradise. mike has been hanging out there for the last few months and has kept the mariposaHD cameras clicking with a taste of the local attractions.

mariela is yet another beautiful Argentine model who went on to bigger and better things after posing before our cameras. She is now living and working in Milan, Italy where she has found great success strolling the high fashion catwalks after taking her first baby steps with us. We finally welcome her to the growing team of mariposa girls and hope you enjoy her new gallery.

We actually did her shoot a few months back, the same day as barbi, so we've also added a few new backstage moments to the making of gallery.

She's a little tanner, a little blonder, and even more stunning...

We have invited one of our most talented mariposa girls back for another visit. After the amazing results from our first shoot we have once again whipped out the Canon EOS 20D, the Sony HVR-Z1U, and the medallion of lucky for another photo shoot with barbi. tamir and cristian took barbi back up to the now famous las cañitas roof top and came back down with an incredible new photo gallery.

It was benito juarez, Mexico's first and only Native American president, who famously said, "Among individuals, as among nations, respect for the rights of others is peace."

It is the morning after the night before. For anyone who has been to Cancun, Mexico (where Americans go to get drunk and rowdy) it may be ironic to see that it is Mexicans who get drunk and rowdy in Uruguay. The mariposaHD team is up again at the crack of dawn to document a day at the beach in Punta del Este. And what did we learn in our day at the beach? That how we choose to behave is more important than what we choose to drink or smoke.
