Hi,

Edited out - After reading the creative commons license, I realized I'm not allowed to transcode the file into another format. Maybe the Ps3 will support WMV in a firmware update someday.

The Ipod downloads also play on the PS3 directly.

hey Brian:
feel free to transcode the episodes into different formats if you can get it to play on the PS3 in 1080p! i'd love to be able to do the same thing.

There is news out that suggests the new 2.10 firmware update for the PS3 will include WMV playback.

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/2305.html

Can anyone who's done the firmware update confirm if a WMV-HD file like mariposaHD will playback on the PS3?

Hi,

It's works! I just updated the PS3 to the new 2.10FW and now MariposaHD 1080p files are found instantly and playback flawlessly without any modification!!!

I'm so happy. Watchout for the web traffic because I'm spreading the word on Ps3 forums I go to.

EDIT- Just found out the audio isn't working (who knew these vids had sound? :) ) I think it should be easy to re-work the audio though just not plug and play yet.

Ok...the audio codec on Mariposal episodes is Windows Media Audio 9.1 Professional (WMA 9.1 Prof) and VC-1 for the video.

The WMA 9.1 Prof is used for everything from full-resolution 24-bit/96 kHz audio in stereo, 5.1 channel, or even 7.1 channel surround sound, to highly efficient mobile capabilities at 24 Kbps to 96 Kbps for stereo, and 128 Kbps to 256 Kbps for 5.1-channel sound....

The VC-1 can use 3 audio codecs, WMA3 ,WMVA and WVC1.
WMV HD Mariposal-episodes are using WMA3 audio.
PS3 does VC1 too but which codec it supports I dont know..one thing for sure, is not the same as Mariposal-episodes.

Convert the episode back to WMV HD 9.... the audio converts to the standard codec...and you will hear the audio back....btw...by this converting you will always loose your multi ch audio...if there is a multi ch audio of course.

Thanks for the input bp!! Unfortunately you lost me at the convert the episode back to wmv hd9....well maybe a little before that to be honest. What software would we use to convert to wmv hd9?

i'm at the point where ps3 is current and i can watch the episdoes on my hdtv in 1080p but sadly with no volume.

your help is appreciated!! - Jeff

Sorry for a very very late reply....you can use for example "Windows Media encoder 9"

Download it from here :

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5691ba02-e496-465a-bba9-b2f1182cdf24&displaylang=en

Ps: still searching for a easier and faster encoding program with 'passthrough' function for video. That means,
only encoding the audio because the video is ok. This will save a lot of time and space while encoding.
