I was just wondering if you guys had any thoughts on putting out Mariposa on HD DVD?

I saw that Amazon is supposed to be able to help "indie" film makers with the production cost. Have you guys looked in to this at all? It'd be a great format and way to get your stuff out there to those who don't have all the equipment it takes to get the video files running on their sets.

Hi, great question, thanks for asking ...

Indeed, we have been thinking about this idea for quite some time and are well aware of Amazon's HD-DVD service.

It is a project that is in the works but we still have some technical and legal hoops to jump thru ... stay tuned for more info on this.

I suppose the only question is which format we should choose: HD-DVD and/or Blu-Ray (and/or WMV HD DVD-ROM?).

On what type of disc would you rather see mariposaHD?

Well, in terms of what I'd like to see mariposaHD on, it'd have to be HD DVD, but that's just simply because I only own an HD DVD player. The player pricing on HD DVD has come way down, to around the $200 mark while Blu-Ray players remain at $500 and higher. This makes HD DVD, imo, a more viable format because more people can afford to buy it.

Past my personal preferences though, depending on publishing/manufacturing costs/etc., going with both formats would definitely yield the most return. There's no real reason to just support one format when you're a content provider. Your ideal goal is to get the content to as many people as possible, in order to increase exposure as well as maximize profits. Putting out mariposaHD on both HD DVD *and* Blu-Ray would do this.

I don't know that I'd put any time and/or effort in to putting out any WMV-HD DVD roms just for the simple fact that you already offer this on the site itself. I, personally, have every episode on mariposaHD across a few DVDs, I watch them on my laptop or on a buddy's Xbox 360 on my HDTV. I can't see a whole lot of people paying to get the WMV-HD files on a DVD when they can do it for themselves. Still, it is the cheapest, and easiest way to do it, so you'd almost be guaranteed some amount of profit via that method..

Another possible avenue, and I meant to talk to you about this in the last post, could possibly be something like HDNet. They have a series called "Bikini Destinations" that tries its hardest to live up to the quality in mariposaHD, but fails. Still, they offer HD DVD and Blu-Ray discs for sale:

They might be someone you approach when the time comes. Who knows, could just work out.

Any way, keep up the great work, I hope you guys can work through whatever legalities come up; I'd love to see mariposaHD sitting in my HD DVD player at some point. :)

If you wanted to release on a format other than DVD, I would go with Blu Ray.

Every single gamer (not me) with a Sony PS3 has a Blu Ray player built into their console, and just like the PS2 with its DVD player back in the day, this did a lot for DVD sales.

Blu Ray discs are very cool.

Problem with that is that the PS3 isn't selling well at all. That's not to say that it isn't helping, but it's not going to help the format war like the PS2. Like I mentioned, supporting both is going to be the best option in terms profit and exposure. Right now the HD market is split about 50/50, and that will most likely change this Fall.

The only reason for me choosing Blu-Ray is...more space !!
"december 2007"...After Sony announced the new 40GB Playstation 3 with a small change in configuration and price reduction. PS3 is selling well now...and they have broad portfolio of games comparing to a few months ago.
