mariposaHD.tv guide to buying an HDTV

DLPs, LCDs, Plasmas, and projectors that natively output 720P, 1080i or 1080p all make excellent HDTV displays. They produce sharp, vivid pictures that will make you never want to watch a Standard Definition broadcast again. All of these HDTV technologies offer wide horizontal and vertical viewing angles which allow for flexible seating arrangements.

Sony Rear Projection LCDs and Samsung DLPs, we believe, should be the first choice for most HDTV buyers. They:

  • produce amazingly clear pictures
  • offer excellent value in terms of price, size, and quality
  • are amongst the most consistently well reviewed HDTVs on the internet
  • perform well in a variety of light environments
  • do not suffer from image burn-in (great news for video game fans)
  • are much smaller/lighter than Rear Projection TV’s of the past
  • are extremely energy-efficient

Flat Panel HDTVs are an excellent choice for a modern/trendy living space and a big bankroll. They:

  • are extremely space efficient (thin and wall mountable)
  • perform well in a variety of light environments
  • have the potential for image burn-in when playing video games for extended periods

Projectors are a good choice for viewers creating their own “basement theatres”. They:

  • Offer unmatched size as screens can be adjusted up to 100”
  • Require full control over room lighting, with no light whatsoever spilling onto the screen

Flat Panel HDTVs

In your comments about "Flat Panel HDTVs" you stated that they "have the potential for image burn-in when playing video games for extended periods ". That only applies to Plasma screens.
LCDs are lighter, easier to wall mount (because they're lighter than Plasma), and they don't "burn in". Also, the prices for larger format LCDs are constantly dropping.

Other than that, Your videos are awsome. I'm waiting for episode 01.06. Keep up the great work guys.

Thanks for the update Todd! i'm actually in the market these days for a new set as i sold my rear projection LCD to a buddy.

Would you recommend any particular 60" models as it sounds like price won't be too bad of an issue as the masses seem to be buying them these days for the fat fake guy holiday?

Man, my old roomie and bud had a 50" Plasma for 7 years. Its nice to have independently successful friends who like you are early adopters.
